Boo's Story

Robert (Boo)
Age 8
Children's Hospital, New Orleans
H1N1 (Swine Flu)

Robert’s nickname “Boo” seems fitting for a little boy who loves to pull pranks. Anyone who knows Boo will tell you that his fun-loving personality can brighten any day.

Boo was one of thousands of children diagnosed with the H1N1 virus in 2009, but his symptoms did not improve. As his organs began to fail, Boo’s survival depended on machines that would function for his heart and lungs. Patient beyond his years, this little boy spent 53 days on those machines. Through it all, he did not let his situation bring down his spirit.

After 480 long days in the hospital, Boo was finally released and able to sleep in his own bed. Even after a long battle with the H1N1 virus, the lively "jokester" never lost hope, or his sense of humor.
